What to Order at Domino's: Every Pizza and Side, Judged

Domino's does not really have prices. It has a menu price almost nobody pays and a coupon price almost everybody does, and the gap between them is enormous — a large specialty pizza lists around $18.99 and walks out the door at $6.99 the moment you add a second item to the cart. Every number below is the national-average menu price, because that is the only figure that can be compared across 6,700 stores. Treat it as the ceiling, not the bill.

Calories come from Domino's published US nutrition guide, which is unusually honest and unusually annoying. Pizzas are listed per slice at 1/8 of a large. Wings and chicken are listed per four pieces and three pieces. Sandwiches are listed per half. Nothing is listed as the portion a human actually orders, so a few of the takes below do the multiplication Domino's declined to do.

Two things run through this whole menu. The first is that the pizza is better than the reputation and the sides are worse. The second is that the single most valuable decision at Domino's costs nothing: the crust you pick moves a large pizza by roughly 480 calories, and the app makes that choice look like a formatting preference.

Every item, judgedThe verdicts

Crunchy Thin Crust (any pizza)

Order it

$13.99 (large cheese) avg · 100 per slice, crust alone cal

One hundred calories of crust per slice versus 160 for Hand Tossed — and Hand Tossed then gets a garlic oil blend brushed on for another 15. Across eight slices that's a 480-calorie swing for a choice the app treats as cosmetic, at identical cost. The trade is real and worth naming: thin crust goes soggy under a wet pizza, so it's the wrong call on anything with fresh tomato or extra sauce, and the right one on everything else.

Pacific Veggie Pizza (large, hand tossed)

Order it

$18.99 avg · 310 per slice cal

Roasted red peppers, spinach, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and feta with provolone under the mozzarella. Three hundred and ten calories a slice — the lowest of any large specialty on this menu, and 70 under the Ultimate Pepperoni. The feta is doing more work here than the vegetables are, which is the whole reason it survives delivery.

Ultimate Pepperoni Pizza (large, hand tossed)

Order it

$18.99 avg · 360 per slice cal

Pepperoni worked into the cheese layer and scattered over the top, which is the version worth paying a specialty premium for. Sixty calories a slice over the Pacific Veggie, and nobody who ordered it was trying to save sixty calories.

Stuffed Cheesy Bread

Order it

$8.19 avg · 150 per piece cal

Domino's sells a lot of sides and this is the one people request by name. It also hides its weight well: 150 calories a piece, eight pieces to the box, 1,200 calories sitting beside a pizza you also ordered. Split it. The bacon-and-jalapeño version runs 170 a piece and earns the extra dollar; the pepperoni one is the same 170 and doesn't.

Chocolate Lava Crunch Cake

Order it

$7.09 (2-pack) avg · 350 per cake cal

Domino's has sold this since 2009 and never found a reason to change it. Three hundred and fifty calories for a cake that arrives still molten in the middle after a twenty-minute drive is a real piece of food engineering, whatever you think of the chain. Eat it before the pizza if delivery ran long; it cools faster than anything else in the bag.

Parmesan Bread Bites

Decent

$6.15 avg · 210 per 4 pieces cal

Cheap, small, and they hold their heat better than anything else in the box — 210 calories per four pieces, so the sixteen-piece order is 840 before you've touched the pizza. Fine. Never the reason anyone opened the app.

Boneless Chicken (8 pc)

Decent

$10.19 avg · 170 per 3 pieces cal

Better than the bone-in wings by a clear margin, which is faint praise, but the eight-piece at roughly 450 calories makes more sense as a non-pizza order than anything else in the chicken section. The breading is thin and it goes limp in the box within ten minutes. Carryout only, or accept what arrives.

Chicken Alfredo Pasta

Decent

$9.19 avg · 590 per dish cal

Penne in alfredo with grilled chicken, baked in the same oven as the pizza. Seventeen grams of saturated fat, most of a day, in a $9 dish that reheats badly and separates when it does. What keeps it off the skip list is the bread bowl version — 660 calories for the pasta plus an edible container, baked to order, and easily the most fun thing Domino's makes. Order that one or don't order pasta.

Classic Garden Salad

Decent

$8.25 avg · 80 before dressing cal

Eighty calories of romaine, tomato, carrot and crouton, which sounds like the disciplined order right up until you read the packet: ranch runs 190 to 230 depending on which brand your store stocks. The dressing can triple the salad.

Bone-In Wings (8 pc)

Skip it

$11.45 avg · 250 per 4 pieces, plain cal

Eleven dollars and forty-five cents for eight wings that arrive steamed limp by their own container. The complaint that follows them everywhere is identical and damning: you have to finish them in your own oven to make them edible. If you're already doing that, order from a wing place. One thing the menu never mentions — sauce choice swings this enormously, with Garlic Parmesan at 390 calories per four pieces against 250 for plain, a 560-calorie gap across one eight-piece order.

Oven-Baked Italian Sandwich

Skip it

$9.39 avg · 420 per half cal

Salami, capicola, ham, banana peppers and cheese on artisan bread. Domino's lists it per half sandwich, which makes 420 calories and 1,530 mg of sodium look reasonable; the whole sandwich is 840 calories and 3,060 mg of sodium, more than most people should eat in a day. Reviewers keep landing on the same verdict: the meat reads as an afterthought under melted cheese, and it's $9.39 at a pizza place — the actual argument against it.

Marbled Cookie Brownie

Skip it

$7.09 avg · 200 per brownie cal

Two hundred calories a square, nine squares to the pan, $7.09 for 1,800 calories of dessert that tastes like the tray it baked in — and the Lava Cake costs the same.

Frequently askedFAQ

What is the healthiest thing to order at Domino's?

A large Pacific Veggie on Crunchy Thin Crust, which lands near 250 calories a slice — the hand-tossed version is 310, and the crust swap alone takes roughly 60 off every slice at no extra cost. Outside the pizza section, the Chicken Caesar Salad is 220 calories before dressing and the Classic Garden Salad is 80, but the dressing packets run 100 to 230 calories each and can outweigh the salad. The number worth watching at Domino's is sodium: the Italian sandwich carries 1,530 mg in half a sandwich, and the Hot Buffalo wings carry 1,520 mg per four pieces.

Is the Domino's Mix & Match deal actually cheaper?

Yes, and by a lot. Mix & Match prices eligible items at $6.99 each once you order two or more, against menu prices of $18.99 for a large specialty pizza and $8.19 for Stuffed Cheesy Bread. Carryout-only deals go further — a large one-topping, eight-piece wings, or a dip-and-twist combo for $7.99 with no delivery fee. The practical rule at Domino's is that ordering one item at menu price is the single most expensive way to use the menu, so if you want one pizza, it is usually cheaper to add a $6.99 side than to buy the pizza alone.

Which Domino's crust is best?

Crunchy Thin for most orders, Hand Tossed if you want something to hold. Thin is 100 calories a slice against 160 for Hand Tossed plus 15 more for the garlic oil brushed over it, and it costs the same, so the only reason to choose Hand Tossed is texture. The exception is a heavily topped pizza — ExtravaganZZa, MeatZZa, anything with fresh tomato — where thin crust collapses under the weight and you want the structure. New York Style is cut into six larger slices at 150 calories of crust each and travels better than either, and the Pan crust is the heaviest at 190 calories a slice on a medium, which is the trade for the fried edge.
