What to Order at Raising Cane's: Every Combo and Side, Judged
Raising Cane's runs one of the smallest menus in fast food on purpose: chicken fingers, four sides, one sauce, done. That simplicity means there's less to get wrong here than at a forty-item drive-thru, but the combo math still rewards paying attention: a $1.80 jump from the 3 Finger Combo to the Box Combo buys you a whole extra tender, while the sandwich version quietly charges more for less.
Prices below are national averages. Cane's is almost entirely company-owned rather than franchised, so pricing runs more consistent store to store than most chains, but your city will still move the numbers by a dollar or so either way.
Every item, judgedThe verdicts
Box Combo
Order itOne more chicken finger than the 3 Finger Combo for $1.80, which drops the per-finger cost from about $3.33 to $2.95 while keeping the same fries, toast, sauce, coleslaw, and drink. The default order here, full stop.
Caniac Combo
Order itSix fingers, two cups of Cane's Sauce instead of one, and a 32-ounce drink for $16.99, the lowest per-finger price on the menu at about $2.83 a piece. That second sauce cup matters more than it sounds; one cup for six fingers has never been enough. Get this when you're actually hungry, not just craving the chicken.
3 Finger Combo
DecentOne fewer finger than the Box Combo for barely any savings — $9.99 against $11.79, a $1.80 gap for a whole tender's worth of chicken. Fine if you're not that hungry; the wrong default if you are.
Kids Combo
Order itTwo fingers, fries, one sauce, and a kids' drink for $6.69, and nobody checks ID at the register.
Sandwich Combo
Skip itSame three chicken fingers as the 3 Finger Combo, just pressed onto a bun with sauce and lettuce. It costs fifty cents more than the loose version and drops the Texas toast entirely. Toast is the top side on the menu after the sauce itself, so this combo effectively charges you extra to remove the good part. Build your own sandwich from a 3 Finger Combo instead. You'll keep the toast.
Texas Toast
Order itTodd Graves, the chain's own founder, swaps his combo's coleslaw for an extra slice of this. Thick-cut, griddled in butter, faintly garlicky. It's the closest thing on the menu to a bonus item nobody talks about. Order an extra slice for $1.49 and use it to mop up whatever sauce is left in the cup.
Cane's Sauce
Order itHalf the cult following lives in this cup. One 1.5-ounce cup isn't enough for a Box Combo's four fingers plus fries, and an extra runs $0.39, cheap insurance against running dry two fingers in.
Crinkle-Cut Fries
DecentPerfectly fine, lightly seasoned, and the least interesting thing on the tray: 400 calories for a side nobody's ordering Cane's for in the first place.
Coleslaw
Skip itEven the man who built the menu skips it: CEO Todd Graves has said on record he skips his own coleslaw for extra toast. At 100 calories it won't hurt you, but it's the one component built for volume, not flavor. Ask for it left off and take the toast instead.
Lemonade
DecentFresh-squeezed and good, which is exactly why it's 290 calories in a 22-ounce cup before you've eaten a single fry. Order it when you actually want the treat, not out of habit. Unsweet tea skips the sugar tax otherwise.
Frequently askedFAQ
What's the best order at Raising Cane's?
The Box Combo. Four chicken fingers, crinkle fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, and a drink for about $11.79 — only $1.80 more than the 3 Finger Combo for a whole extra tender, the best per-finger value outside the Caniac.
Is the Raising Cane's chicken sandwich worth it?
Not as its own combo. The Sandwich Combo uses the same three fingers as the 3 Finger Combo but costs about fifty cents more and drops the Texas toast. Order the 3 Finger Combo and build your own handheld version if portability is what you're after.
How many calories is a Caniac Combo?
Raising Cane's lists the Caniac Combo at 1,840 to 2,470 calories depending on the drink, since it defaults to a 32-ounce fountain drink or lemonade. The food itself (six fingers, fries, toast, coleslaw and two sauces) accounts for most of that before the drink is even counted.
